Oil Pulling Therapy – What is Oil Pulling?December 7th, 2012 by Craig Mullins
So someone told me about oil pulling therapy the other day. I was like WTF is that?
Basically you just rinse your mouth out with vegetable oil. You swish a teaspoon of oil around in your mouth for 15 – 20 minutes. Any oil works but most people use coconut oil. It’s a good time to meditate while doing it. Some people recommend putting in a couple drops of essential oil for flavoring.
I actually tried it. LOL. I used extra virgin olive oil. It wasn’t the most enjoyable taste, but after about 5 minutes I got used to it. My mouth was actually really tired after about 30 seconds of swishing, so I had to take lil breaks. By the end of the 20 minutes the teaspoon of oil and my saliva filled up most of my mouth. The only thing I noticed (this is only my first time) was that my mouth wasn’t super dry like it usually is when I wake up in the morning and no bad morning breathe. So kinda cool.
Here’s a post from the Coconut Research Center that explains a couple things oil pulling therapy may help with:
“Some people think I’m crazy when I tell them that oil pulling can help those with asthma, allergies, chronic fatigue, diabetes, migraine headaches, PMS, and chronic skin problems. Oil pulling works by detoxifying or cleansing the body. In this way, disease promoting toxins are removed, thus allowing the body to heal itself. As a consequence, health problems of all types improve. “
Another site I found these items:
- decrease in headaches
- improves eczema
- helps with ulcers and diseases of stomach, intestines, heart, blood, kidney, liver, lungs
- reduce or slow growth of malignant tumors
- better sleep
- whiter, straighter teeth
- healthy, pink gums
- increased energy
- clear sinuses
- less severe asthma
- decreased allergies
- improved PMS symptoms
- regulated menstrual cycles
- clear skin
